The Same Heart

but what I do know is…

Finding dignity with my 87 year old Aunt Grace.  She was moved to the memory unit this year.  I spoke to her yesterday.

“I don’t know how old I am,” she said, “and I’m not real sure how I got here, but what I do know is, that it’s the same heart that beats inside me.”

Here you are

What is it about a cat that can make a human feel really stupid for traipsing out in the middle of the night in bedroom slippers

What is it about a cat that can make a human feel really stupid for traipsing out in the middle of the night in bedroom slippers and a flashlight calling, “here kitty, kitty,” in a high-pitched voice; only to give up, go back to bed and find your cat next to your bed looking up at you?

Blurring Time

the mind plays tricks into believing it can change time.

During great loss; past, present and future blur into distortion.

To want so badly for the tragedy not to have happened, the mind plays tricks into believing it can change it.

After all, there are so many things in our world we can change if we don’t like them; most things, in fact. The past is not one of them. Move on.

How Does Time Heal?

Hope launches us into exploration and discovery.

How does time heal?
The unpredictable becomes predictable,
We unravel the blur
of  the irrevocable past,
          the pain of the present
                   to redefine the future.
Hope launches us into exploration and discovery.
The unpredictable becomes predictable.

The Adventure of Possibilities

Loss, Grief, Change, Transition

When it is not there anymore, it just isn’t there. Rest, let go of the fight and fall into the surrender of what you can’t control.  Sleep.

Then

Be brave, unlatch the window and let in the dawn of a new day.  Open to new possibilities.

Take interest in the peculiar, invite the unfamiliar and the unpredictable will become an adventure.

Which Dog

A glimpse beyond grouchy, defensive people. What if…

Which dog 400x215.jpg

How to let go of this swampy mess of irritation? Feeling victimized by a grouch and looking for a refuel.
I'm not feeling very loving right now, where is the road to compassion?

I found my footing when I imagined the grouch speaking from a place of pain. If a dog was caught in a bear trap and growling at me.  Even if if the dog tried to bite me, I would feel compassion.

So now when attacked by a grouch, if I imagine they have a paw in a bear trap, even if they are trying to bite me, I am able to respond in love.
